Research Goal & Contribution
We investigated how a Large Language Model (LLM) -based conversational interface can help with task initiation and time calibration for college students, and we contributed empirical insights from students’ experiences along with design implications for future AI time-management tools.
Motivation
The college setting amplifies the demand for self-regulation and time management, posing extra challenges for students struggling with time blindness and executive dysfunction.
There are effective tools and strategies, but we want to examine how LLM-based conversational tools can enhance them and further reduce cognitive load for users.
What we did…
- User Testing We tested our probe with college students and asked about their experience to gauge helpfulness of LLM and provide design implications for similar LLM-powered time/task management tools.
- Technology Probe We built a LLM-interfacing technology probe that helps user manage their tasks and time, including features like micro-step breakdown and chatbot assistant.
